EMDR Therapy in Boston, MA

Trauma doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like overreacting, shutting down, staying on edge, or replaying the same memory for years. EMDR helps your brain finally process what it couldn’t process back then.

Serving Boston and the greater Boston area • Massachusetts clients

Evidence-Based

EMDR is a structured, research-supported approach for trauma and distressing memories.

You Stay in Control

We go at your pace. You don’t have to “push through” or relive every detail.

Focused Progress

Many clients see meaningful change in a relatively short course of treatment.

EMDR Can Help If You’re Dealing With:

PTSD or trauma (single incident or cumulative)
Intrusive memories, nightmares, or flashbacks
Anxiety that feels stuck (even after trying other approaches)
Panic responses and body-based triggers
Phobias or specific fears
Grief that feels frozen or overwhelming
Negative beliefs like ‘I’m not safe’ or ‘It was my fault’
High-responsibility stress that keeps your nervous system on high alert

Boston-area clients

If you’re high-functioning, EMDR can still be the right fit.

A lot of people in Boston are used to performing under pressure. The problem is that your nervous system doesn’t care how competent you are. If your brain filed something incorrectly, it’ll keep triggering you. EMDR helps you reprocess it so you can move forward — without losing the edge that makes you good at what you do.

How it works

What to Expect in EMDR

1

Assessment + Targets

We identify the memories, triggers, and negative beliefs that keep getting activated — and choose what to work on first.

2

Preparation

You’ll learn grounding and regulation tools so you feel steady before we do any processing.

3

Reprocessing

Using bilateral stimulation, we help your brain metabolize what’s stuck so it stops hitting you the same way.

4

Integration

We reinforce new beliefs and track real-world changes — sleep, triggers, confidence, and how you respond under stress.

EMDR in Boston: FAQ

Is EMDR available in Boston if I prefer in-person?

If you’re in Massachusetts and want to meet in person, that’s possible (limited availability). Many people still choose virtual because it’s private and convenient — but you’re not forced into a one-size-fits-all option.

Do I have to describe my trauma in detail?

No. EMDR doesn’t require you to retell everything blow-by-blow. You stay in control of what you share. The processing happens internally — I guide the structure and pacing.

How long does EMDR take?

Many clients notice meaningful shifts within 8–10 sessions, though it depends on what you’re working through. We’ll set targets, track progress, and adjust as we go.

Is EMDR covered by insurance in Massachusetts?

Often, yes. In Massachusetts I accept Blue Cross, Harvard Pilgrim, Aetna, Tufts, Point 32, Cigna Optum, and United Health (and MassHealth). You can also self-pay if you prefer.

What issues can EMDR help with?

EMDR is best known for trauma/PTSD, but it can also help with anxiety, panic, phobias, distressing memories, and negative self-beliefs that keep getting triggered.
