Stoicism-Informed Therapy

Stoic Therapy: Practical Tools for a Noisy Mind

When life is heavy, you dont need vague encouragement. You need a framework. Stoicism offers one of the best: focus on what you control, release what you dont, and act with purpose anyway.

What Stoic Therapy Means Here

This is not philosophy class. Its not motivational quotes. Its a practical integration of Stoic principles with evidence-based therapy (especially CBT) to help you respond with clarity under pressure.

Control

Separate whats in your control (choices, actions, values) from whats not (other people, outcomes, the past).

Cognition

Use CBT tools to identify distortions, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and build a more accurate internal narrative.

Courage

Act according to values even when you feel anxious, uncertain, or uncomfortable.

A simple Stoic lens

Its not events that trouble us, but our reactions to them. Epictetus

The goal isnt to suppress emotion. Its to stop emotion from driving the bus.

Stoicism-Informed Therapy: FAQ

Is Stoic therapy a real type of therapy?

Stoicism isnt a clinical modality by itself. What I do is integrate Stoic principles (control, values, perspective, courage) with evidence-based therapy approaches like CBT. Its practical, structured, and grounded.

Is this just positive thinking?

No. Stoicism is not optimism. Its realism + agency: accept what you cant control, and take responsibility for what you can.

What issues does this help with?

Anxiety, stress, burnout, rumination, anger/irritability, perfectionism, and the feeling of being successful but not okay. Its also a great fit for high-responsibility professionals.

Do I need to have read Stoic books?

Not at all. Well use the ideas as tools, not as homework. If you like reading, Ill recommend a few options but its not required.

Is this virtual?

Yes. Virtual sessions are available for Massachusetts, Vermont, and Pennsylvania (based on licensure). In-person is available in Massachusetts with limited availability.
